Create Your Own Windows XP Screen Saver Slideshow

Overview/What You Need

  1. Enable the Slideshow Screen Saver (Viewing)
  2. Configure My Pictures Slideshow Screen Saver Options
  3. Configure Windows Power Saving Options

The first step is to choose the My Pictures slideshow from your list of screen savers. Windows ME instructions are below the pictures.

Instructions (Windows XP)

See "Instructions in Pictures" below to for a screenshot of each item.

  1. Open "Control Panel" from the Start Menu
  2. Click the "Appearances and Themes" icon in Control Panel
    GOTCHA!
    If you do not have an Appearances and Themes icon, you may be in the "Classic View" of Control Panel. See below for details on switching to "Category View."
  3. Select the "Choose Screen Saver" link to bring up the screen saver selection window.
  4. Select "My Pictures Slideshow" from the "Screen saver" drop down list.

Your slideshow screen saver may be working at this point. To get the most out of your screensaver, there are some configuration options to consider in the next couple of steps.

In step 2, you will learn how to tell the My Pictures slideshow where to look for your photos, how to make the slideshow interactive and details on each configurable feature.

In step 3, you will discover some settings that can prevent your screensaver from being displayed. You will also learn how stop your screensaver from becoming an energy waster.

 

Instructions in Pictures (Windows XP)

1.  Open Control Panel

The Control Panel is found on the Start Menu.

2.  Select "Appearances and Themes"

If your Control Panel looks like this, click the Appearances and Themes icon. If not, see the Gotcha! below.

3.  Select "Choose a Screen Saver "

Click Choose a Screen Saver to open the screensaver settings window.

4.  Select "My Pictures Slideshow"

The "Screen saver" drop down list shows the available screen savers on your system. Choose the My Pictures Slideshow.

 

Gotcha!

If your Control Panel doesn't have an "Appearance and Themes" icon, it may be in "Classic View." Switch to "Category View" by clicking the link on the far left of the window.

If your Control Panel looks like this, click "Switch to Classic View" on the left.

 

 

Instructions (Windows ME)

  1. Open "Control Panel" from the Start Menu
  2. Click the "Display" icon in Control Panel
  3. Select the "Screen Saver " tab at the top of the Display Settings window.
  4. Select "My Pictures Slideshow" from the "Screen saver" drop down list.
